Leave the Adjectives at the Door

Many writers mourn their process. "I am a slow writer." "I am a moody writer."

I have applied these adjectives and others to myself many times in the past, but lately it occurs to me, why not simply and dutifully be a writer, without the need for adjectives and justification? The act of consistent writing is enough.

In my case, adjectives originate from the ego. Allowing the writing to occur naturally, unlabeled, through daily due process is all that's required. Writing is an act that produces a writer. Doing is being. Adjectives are for critics and observers to apply. Adjectives only disrupt and undermine the voice working its way into the world.

All I need to do, all we need to do, is just do and be.
